The Chinese EV market is moving fast, and Week 28 was full of surprises. Four big names — Tesla, BYD, Xiaomi, and Nio — showed very different results in their latest registration numbers. Let’s take a closer look.

Week 28 EV Sales: Who’s Up and Who’s Down

Here are the Week 28 registration numbers from China:

  • Tesla: 12,270
  • BYD: 48,780
  • Xiaomi: 6,680
  • Nio: 2,410

At first look, BYD is still the biggest. But the real story is in the changes.

  • Tesla jumped by 145%.
  • Xiaomi grew by 37%.
  • BYD fell by 12%.
  • Nio dropped around 4%.

This week was a big win for Tesla — and a small warning for others.

Tesla’s Huge Comeback

Tesla’s 145% growth is not normal. It’s massive. A few things likely helped:

  • Price cuts: Tesla dropped prices recently. Chinese buyers love a deal.
  • Faster production: Tesla’s Shanghai factory is working fast. That means faster deliveries.
  • Model Y and Model 3: These two are still favorites in China. Add strong marketing, and the result is clear.

Tesla is not just selling cars. It’s selling a tech dream. That’s working — especially with younger buyers in the Chinese EV market.

BYD’s Slip Is Not the End

Even with a 12% drop, BYD is still the biggest in China. But a small dip shows that even the king needs to watch out.

  • More brands are entering the EV race.
  • Buyers have more choices now.
  • Supply chains still cause delays.

Still, BYD has many models and strong trust in China. A short drop won’t change that.

Xiaomi’s Bright Start

Xiaomi is new in EVs, but it already sold 6,680 cars this week — up 37%. Why?

  • Xiaomi is already a strong name in phones.
  • Its EV is built for young, tech-loving people.
  • It’s priced smartly, and looks cool.

This is only the beginning. Xiaomi could become a real threat in the Chinese EV market.

Nio’s Struggle

Nio’s 4% drop may seem small, but it adds to a longer trend. Nio wants to stay premium, but it’s hard with so many cheaper options now.

Still, Nio has loyal fans. Its battery-swap tech is special. If it keeps pushing innovation, it can bounce back.

Why This Week Matters

Week 28 shows how fast the Chinese EV market can change. Tesla proved that bold moves can lead to big wins. Xiaomi showed there’s space for fresh brands. BYD showed that even leaders have to fight hard. And Nio reminded us that brand image must evolve.

The race is far from over. And in China, every week tells a new story.
