Columbia University and the Trump administration are close to reaching a settlement over claims that the university did not do enough to protect Jewish students from harassment.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the agreement may involve Columbia paying hundreds of millions of dollars—possibly over $200 million—as compensation for alleged civil rights violations.

In return, the Trump administration may restore some of the $400 million in federal research funding it had previously withdrawn from the university.

As part of the deal, Columbia may also agree to make changes such as being more transparent about how students are admitted and where donations from foreign countries come from.

The deal is still being finalized and not yet official. However, Columbia representatives are expected to meet with Trump officials at the White House next week to continue discussions.
