Looking for love online, he found a scam instead—losing his life’s savings in minutes.

The Beginning of a Costly Romance

Daljit Singh, a divorced director at a Delhi-based firm, joined a dating app last year hoping to find love again. Little did he know, his search would cost him his entire savings. He matched with a woman named Anita, who claimed to be from Hyderabad. What started as friendly chats soon turned into discussions about “lucrative” investment opportunities.

The Trap: Quick Profits & False Trust

Anita convinced Daljit to invest in three companies, promising huge returns. He started small—depositing Rs 3.2 lakh and earning Rs 24,000 within hours.

When he successfully withdrew Rs 8,000, his trust grew. Believing Anita had his best interests at heart, he took the plunge—investing his life savings of Rs 4.5 crore and even taking a Rs 2 crore loan to invest more.

The Shocking Reality

In total, Daljit transferred Rs 6.5 crore across 25 bank accounts. But when he tried to withdraw his money, he was asked to pay a 30% fee.

When Daljit refused to pay, the scammers cut all contact. Two of the three websites suddenly disappeared, and investigators confirmed Anita’s profile was fake. Recognizing the fraud, Daljit immediately filed a complaint with Noida’s Cyber Police.

What’s Next?

The police are now tracking the money trail, but recovering the funds will be tough. This case serves as a stark reminder: If an online “romance” involves money, it’s likely a scam.
