The Delhi Transport Department has announced that vehicles without colour-coded fuel stickers will now face penalties. These stickers show what type of fuel the vehicle uses and are part of the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) system.
A public notice released on Sunday said that if a vehicle does not have the required sticker, the owner can be fined under Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This section deals with penalties for using vehicles that do not follow proper registration rules.
These colour-coded stickers were introduced along with HSRP back in 2012-13 and became mandatory for all vehicles in 2019. Here’s what the sticker colours mean:
- Orange for diesel vehicles
- Light Blue for petrol and CNG vehicles
- Grey for other fuel types
If your vehicle doesn’t have the correct sticker:
- You can be fined up to ₹5,000
- You may not get your Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
