Diljit Dosanjh has finally spoken about the controversy surrounding his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. The Internet blew up after fans noticed that Pakistani actress Hania Aamir is in the movie. The timing couldn’t have been worse—tensions between India and Pakistan are at an all-time high following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025.
The trailer dropped on Sunday. Within hours, social media was filled with angry reactions. Film bodies in India called for a ban on the movie. Some even requested the CBFC to not allow it a release in India. The main reason? Not just Hania Aamir, but other Pakistani actors like Nasir Chinyoti and Daniel Khawar are also part of the cast.

Diljit Speaks Up
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh—who is also one of the producers—finally addressed the issue. He explained that the movie was shot in February 2025, when things between the two countries were stable.
“When this film was made, everything was fine,” he said. “We shot it before the Pahalgam incident. After that, things went out of control. The producers then decided not to release it in India and focus on overseas markets.”

“Producers Ka Bohut Paisa Laga Hai”
Diljit emphasized that a lot of money was already spent on the film. “There’s going to be a loss. Everyone knows that. But what can we do now? It’s not in our hands,” he said.
This is a rare moment where Diljit, known for staying away from controversies, has stepped in to clarify. He stood by the producers’ decision to release the film internationally.
He also praised Hania Aamir. “She’s very professional. I respect her and her space. We kept our conversations to the point,” he added.
Why the Anger?
Many fans feel this isn’t just about timing. After the Pahalgam terror attack, where Indian soldiers were killed, emotions are high. India responded strongly with Operation Sindoor. So, seeing Pakistani artists in an Indian production feels wrong to some.
Groups like FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) wrote to the censor board demanding a ban. The sentiment is strong—many believe Indian platforms should not promote Pakistani talent while tensions remain high.
What Now?
As of now, Sardaar Ji 3 will not be released in India. It will only hit theatres overseas this Friday.
Diljit’s fans are split. Some support his honesty. Others feel it was irresponsible to cast Pakistani actors, no matter when the film was made.
It’s a classic case of art getting caught in politics. And Diljit Dosanjh, like it or not, is right in the middle of it.
