A 77-year-old man was allegedly attacked by a doctor at a hospital in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. A video of the incident went viral on social media on Sunday, leading to the doctor’s dismissal. The police have also filed a case.
The incident happened on April 17. In the video, a frail man named Udhavlal Joshi is shown being dragged across the hospital by the doctor and threatened with being locked up in the hospital’s police outpost.

Joshi had brought his sick wife to the hospital. While waiting in line with others, the doctor, Rajesh Mishra, allegedly asked why they were standing in line. When Joshi tried to explain, the doctor slapped him, broke his glasses, and dragged him to the police outpost. Joshi said the doctor also kicked him, tore his hospital slip, and threatened to kill him. His wife was also reportedly assaulted.
The doctor, however, claimed Joshi was misbehaving. Mishra said the elderly man started arguing with a woman in line and misbehaved with hospital staff. He said when he tried to ask Joshi to stand in line, the patient slapped him.
Initially, hospital authorities backed the doctor’s version of events, but after the video went viral, an investigation was launched. The doctor was given a notice to explain his actions.

Madhya Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Rajendra Shukla, took notice of the incident, leading to the doctor’s termination, along with the firing of other hospital staff, including Dr. G L Ahirwar, the hospital’s chief.
The police have filed a case but have not made any arrests yet. The government emphasized that all patients must be treated with respect and dignity, and such behavior by hospital staff will not be tolerated.
