A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 shook the Kuril Islands in Russia on Saturday. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) shared that the earthquake happened at 7:33 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) and was 10 kilometers deep. The exact location was near latitude 49.94°N and longitude 162.70°E.

This earthquake happened just a few days after a much bigger 8.8 magnitude earthquake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. That big quake caused large tsunami waves along the coasts of Japan and Russia.
