Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, has given a serious warning about the future of life on Earth. He says that eventually, the sun will expand and destroy all life on our planet. Musk believes the only way for humanity to survive long-term is to create a permanent, self-sustaining civilization on Mars.

In a recent video shared on social media, Musk explained the need to make humanity “multi-planetary.” He stressed that colonizing Mars isn’t just about visiting, but about building a lasting presence there. According to Musk, this move would serve as “life insurance” for humanity, ensuring that civilization continues even after Earth is no longer habitable.

While the danger from the sun is still hundreds of millions of years away, Musk urged that we need to start working on this plan now. He pointed out that Earth has been around for 4.5 billion years, but it only has about 10% of its life left before it gets too hot for life to survive.
Musk emphasized the importance of Mars becoming self-sustaining, meaning it should be able to survive without needing supplies from Earth. He said, “If the resupply ships from Earth stop coming, we haven’t created life insurance for humanity.”
SpaceX is already making progress on the Mars colonization plan. The company is working on building dome habitats, creating special spacesuits, and even figuring out how humans might be able to reproduce on Mars. Musk also revealed that the first city on Mars will be called “Terminus,” though it will ultimately be up to the people living there to choose their city’s name.
Musk’s goal is clear: to ensure the survival of humanity by establishing a new home for us on Mars before it’s too late.
