Diljit Dosanjh, one of India’s most loved entertainers, is now at the center of a major controversy. His upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3 has sparked outrage after Pakistani actress Hania Aamir appeared in the trailer. The backlash? A full-blown ban in India.
On June 22, Diljit dropped the trailer for Sardaar Ji 3 on his Instagram. While the teaser earlier gave no clue, the trailer revealed Hania Aamir as one of the leads. This did not go down well with film industry bodies, especially at a time when India-Pakistan tensions are running high after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

FWICE and AICWA Strike Back
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) didn’t hold back. Its President BN Tiwari told NDTV, “There will be complete non-cooperation. We will ensure Diljit Dosanjh doesn’t get work in India.” He also said that the film should not be released anywhere — and if it is, the team will face full boycott.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) joined in too. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they announced a complete boycott of Diljit, urging producers, music labels, event organizers, and the entire industry to not work with him in any way.
They even wrote to the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) asking them to stall the film’s clearance.
Overseas Release Only?
Diljit clarified that Sardaar Ji 3 is set to release overseas only on June 27. The trailer has already been geo-blocked in India, possibly to avoid further controversy.
But critics like Ashok Pandit aren’t convinced. In an interview with NDTV, he slammed the move: “This is arrogance. You’re earning from this country, living in this country, and still ignoring the emotions of the people?”
What’s the Big Deal?
It’s not just about one actor. It’s about the timing. After recent terror attacks, the public mood is sensitive. Many believe casting a Pakistani artist now sends the wrong message. And since Diljit is also one of the producers, the heat is now directly on him.
This isn’t the first time either. Earlier, Fawad Khan’s comeback film was also stopped from releasing in India for similar reasons.
Diljit Dosanjh is a superstar, no doubt. But this controversy could have serious consequences for his career in India. With top film bodies backing a nationwide boycott, Sardaar Ji 3 may find itself in deep trouble — even if it never sees a release on Indian screens.
