On Saturday, heavy rain hit Washington DC and nearby areas in Maryland and Virginia, leading to flash floods and many emergency rescue efforts.
Some places, like Silver Spring, got over 5 inches of rain. Several main roads in Maryland’s Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Anne Arundel counties, as well as in Virginia’s Fairfax County, were flooded and couldn’t be used by evening. In northwest DC, floodwater even covered parked cars.

Pete Piringer from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said that rescue teams helped many people trapped in cars surrounded by rising water. Luckily, no one was hurt.

In Great Falls, Virginia, about 17 miles from DC, seven people were rescued from a car stuck in fast-moving water. No injuries were reported there either.
By 9 PM, most of the bad weather had passed, but light rain was still possible. Flood warnings remained in place for parts of southern Montgomery County, northern Fairfax County, and some areas in Washington DC.
