A Bengaluru-based AI research startup called Gibran has raised $2.6 million in seed funding. The investment round was led by Together Fund, and the money will help the company build a new kind of AI system that is inspired by nature and adapts over time.
Gibran wants to create AI that helps people think, create, and make better decisions — instead of just doing tasks for them. The company uses ideas from evolutionary biology and complex systems to design AI that works in a flexible and human-friendly way.

Gibran was co-founded by Govind Balakrishnan, Edgar, Srikant Chakravarti, and Suzanne Sadedin. Each founder brings a different expertise:
- Sadedin is an expert in biology and complex systems.
- Chakravarti has experience in AI infrastructure.
- Edgar works on generative AI systems.
- Balakrishnan leads the product development and business strategy.
Their goal is to go beyond typical AI tools and create systems that evolve with users, not replace them. “AI should help people think and create more, not take over their jobs,” said Balakrishnan.
Together Fund believes Gibran’s approach is unique. “This is about helping humans grow, not just boosting productivity,” said Manav Garg, the fund’s co-founder.
With the new funding, Gibran plans to grow its team, build its platform, and start testing its ideas in real-world areas where human-like AI is needed. As many companies use similar large language models, Gibran wants to stand out by creating AI that works more like the human brain — always learning and adapting.
