Google is planning to invest a massive $6 billion to build Asia’s largest data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, according to a report by Reuters. This will be Google’s first major data centre project in India.
What the Project Includes:
- A 1-gigawatt data centre and the power infrastructure to support it.
- Out of the total investment, $2 billion will go into renewable energy to run the data centre sustainably.
Why It’s a Big Deal:
This project will be Asia’s largest data centre in terms of both capacity and investment. It’s part of Google’s plan to grow its data centre presence across Asia, which also includes projects in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

- The first set of data centres is expected to go live in two years.
Boosting Digital Infrastructure:
The state is also planning to set up three undersea cable landing stations in Visakhapatnam. These will provide high-speed internet connectivity and double the cable capacity that Mumbai currently has.
this investment is set to transform Andhra Pradesh into a major digital hub, bringing advanced technology, improved internet infrastructure, and significant economic growth to the region.
