Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. The game was expected to come out in Fall 2025, but now it will be released on May 26, 2026.
While this news might disappoint many fans, Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar Games, says the delay will allow the team to make the game even better. CEO Strauss Zelnick said that GTA 6 will go beyond expectations and change what we think of as blockbuster entertainment.

Why the Delay?
Take-Two announced the delay just days before revealing its financial plans for the upcoming year. After the news broke, the company’s stock price dropped by about 10% in early trading on Friday. Still, Zelnick remains positive.

He explained that the delay is needed to give Rockstar more time to perfect the game. “We fully support Rockstar’s decision,” he said, adding that quality is more important than rushing a release. He believes that this decision will benefit both players and investors in the long run.
What to Expect from GTA 6
The six-month delay shows that Rockstar is focused on polishing the game. After the massive success of GTA V, expectations for GTA 6 are sky-high.
Even with the delay, excitement for the game remains strong. The GTA 6 trailer broke YouTube records when it was released in December. The game continues to be one of the most talked-about topics online.
Rockstar has also started promoting the game in fun ways — for example, the Miami Grand Prix recently used GTA 6 themes in its marketing.
