Gujarat Titans (GT), the 2022 IPL champions, secured their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs with a powerful 10-wicket win over Delhi Capitals. GT chased down a big target of 200 runs with six balls remaining.
Openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan led the way with an unbeaten partnership. Sudharsan scored 108 runs off 61 balls, and Gill stayed not out on 93 from 53 balls. Their opening stand set a record and helped GT qualify for the playoffs with two matches still left in the league stage.

Gill said after the match, “It feels great to qualify, but we still have two important games left. Keeping the momentum is key.” He also shared how he learned to balance captaincy and batting after struggling last season.

“Our fielding wasn’t good earlier—we dropped a lot of catches—but we worked on it during the break,” Gill added. He credited his calm batting to separating captaincy stress from his role as a batter.
Gill also mentioned that a recent break due to military tensions between India and Pakistan helped him recover from an illness.
Assistant coach Parthiv Patel praised the openers’ understanding and teamwork. “They play smart cricket with low risks but can still hit boundaries. Their chemistry is great, and they know each other’s game well,” he said. Parthiv also gave credit to head coach Ashish Nehra, calling him “the reason we’re right up there.”

Player of the match Sai Sudharsan, now the leading run-scorer along with Gill (609 and 594 runs), said mental strength helped him take the game deep. “I used to take risks too early, but now I believe in myself more and try to finish games,” he said.
On his partnership with Gill, Sudharsan added, “We understand each other really well. If one is doing well, the other supports. Running between wickets is also important for us.”
