HDFC Bank is expected to show a small but steady rise in profit for the first quarter of FY26. As per brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher, HDFC Bank’s net profit is likely to touch Rs 16,422.2 crore, marking a 1.5% growth year-on-year. However, on a quarter-on-quarter basis, this number may fall by 2.9%.
The key growth driver? Net Interest Income (NII). The bank’s NII is estimated to rise 5.3% year-on-year to Rs 31,430.6 crore. This means more income earned through lending, compared to the interest it pays on deposits. Even quarter-on-quarter, NII is expected to see a small rise of 0.2%, showing a stable income stream.

Another positive sign is the bank’s Pre Provision Operating Profit (PPOP). This is expected to reach Rs 24,897 crore, up 4.2% from last year. But when compared to the last quarter, this might see a dip of 3.6%. PPOP tells us how strong the bank’s core operations are—without looking at bad loans or other risks.

So, what does this mean for HDFC Bank?
It shows strength in a tough environment. While big growth may not be on the charts, steady income and profits reflect a solid business. With inflation, RBI rules, and loan demand shifting all the time, even a small positive move shows HDFC Bank’s strong grip on its operations.
Prabhudas Lilladher’s estimates give investors and analysts a clue into what’s working and what needs focus. The slight dip in quarterly profit could signal rising costs or slower loan growth. But the rise in NII and PPOP tells us that the bank’s engine is still strong.
This matters because HDFC Bank is one of the biggest private banks in India. Its results often reflect how the whole banking sector is doing. If its earnings hold steady, it builds confidence across the board.
For young investors or first-time stock watchers, this update is important. It shows that profits don’t always shoot up. But if the basics stay solid—like income from loans and low costs—then the bank stays on the right track.
HDFC Bank might not be making headlines with record profits this time. But in a market that’s always looking for balance, this kind of steady performance is its own win.
