HNIs Ditch Green Cards for Golden Visas – Here’s Where They’re Heading

Indian HNIs (High Net-worth Individuals) are changing direction. Once obsessed with the US EB-5 visa programme, they are now looking elsewhere for safer, faster residency options. The reason? Uncertainty.

The US government has made unclear statements about suspending the EB-5 visa. Investors are worried. Lawsuits have already begun, and confusion is in the air.

The EB-5 programme needs $800,000 to $1.05 million in real estate or business. In return, the US gives green cards to the investor, their spouse, and children. But when the rules start shifting and legal battles pop up, even the rich look for smoother paths.

The Shift: UAE, Europe, and the Caribbean

That smoother path? It’s now leading to the UAE, EU countries, and Caribbean islands like Grenada.

In the UAE, a golden visa is possible with around Rs 4.5 crore in real estate. Indian developers like Sobha and Sunteck are building luxury homes there, and many Indian HNIs are already buying. The market is hot. From January to June 2025, property sales touched $89 billion. Geopolitical peace in the UAE, compared to the chaos elsewhere, makes it even more attractive.

In Europe, countries like Italy, France, Hungary, and Bulgaria offer residency or citizenship through bonds, donations, or real estate. Italy, for example, doesn’t even need a house purchase — you can invest in a startup or a legacy business.

Plus, an EU passport offers visa-free travel across the Schengen zone. That’s freedom HNIs value.

Caribbean Cool: Grenada, Antigua and More

Then there’s the Caribbean. For just $350,000, you can buy real estate in Grenada and apply for citizenship. Or, donate a bit more and fast-track the process.

Grenada is becoming popular because it has strong ties with the US, UK, and EU. No bans, no drama. Plus, it has strict checks — which surprisingly comforts investors. It feels serious, not shady.

According to Andri Boiko, a global citizenship consultant, Indians now want stability and clarity, not just a fancy American address. “Zero rejections, zero stress” is his pitch.

As the US fumbles, Indian HNIs are choosing bold and smart options. Gulf countries offer peace and real estate returns. Europe offers passport power. The Caribbean offers speed.

Who needs confusion when you can get a passport, peace, and property — all in one plan?
