Students at IIT Kharagpur have asked the college authorities to take action against reckless driving on campus. The student media group, IIT Kharagpur Awaaz, posted on Facebook, saying that more delivery drivers are speeding through the campus without following traffic rules. They claim these drivers seem to think they won’t face any consequences for breaking the rules, and this has caused chaos on campus.
The post also pointed out that senior students are ignoring campus regulations by riding two-wheelers, even though students are only allowed to use bicycles. According to the post, senior students believe they are above the rules because there have been no consequences for their actions.

The students mentioned that there have been recent accidents on campus due to reckless driving. One student was injured badly and needed stitches after an accident. Delivery riders and ride-hailing services are becoming more common on campus, and because IIT Kharagpur has about 17,000 students, it has become a busy place for such services. Some of these delivery drivers tend to speed, which increases the risk of accidents.
A student, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that speeding is a common problem because of the large number of vehicles and drivers. However, the authorities have not yet taken any action. Amit Patra, the director of IIT (BHU) and acting director of IIT Kharagpur, mentioned that something might have happened to make students post about this issue on Facebook. But he said he hasn’t received any formal complaints about the situation yet.
