India squad vs England

The India squad vs England for the upcoming five-Test series is set to be announced this Saturday.

This series is particularly significant because it will be the first time India plays Tests without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who both recently retired from the format. Fans and experts alike are buzzing with questions about who will lead the team and who will fill Kohli’s long-held No. 4 batting spot.

According to a recent report by Cricbuzz, the batting order is almost decided. KL Rahul is expected to open the innings, possibly alongside the young and promising Yashasvi Jaiswal.

This move would push Shubman Gill down to the No. 4 position. The No. 3 spot, which has traditionally been crucial, could be taken by either Sai Sudharsan or Karun Nair, both of whom have shown great form in domestic cricket.

Sudharsan, especially, has been making waves as one of the best openers in IPL 2025, although he may not open in the Tests.

This fresh lineup shows that selectors are ready to invest in youth and form rather than sticking to old names.

But the story doesn’t end with the batsmen. Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s spot in the squad looks shaky. Despite being fit enough to bowl for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, Shami may not have the required workload to handle the physically demanding Test series.

Sources at ESPNcricinfo revealed that BCCI’s medical staff recently checked on Shami’s fitness. The report suggested the selectors might drop Shami from the squad unless the medical report turns out favorable.

His last Test match was the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia, making this a long wait to prove his readiness again.

Think about it — a young opener like Yashasvi Jaiswal, given the tough English conditions, partnering with the experienced KL Rahul. It’s a blend of fresh energy and calm experience.

Shubman Gill moving to No. 4 means he now carries the weight of expectations Kohli once did. And the No. 3 slot battle adds a spicy twist.

To add a little cricket humor: If the English bowlers thought facing Kohli was tough, wait till they meet this new Indian batting order — it’s like switching from a Ferrari to a Tesla. Both fast, but one has fresh tech and surprise power under the hood.
