As the temperature rises in the UAE, so does the excitement for mangoes! The mango season is a much-loved time when markets are full of juicy, sweet Indian mangoes. For many people living in the UAE, eating mangoes signals the real start of summer. These fruits are a big part of the country’s food culture.

UAE: The Biggest Buyer of Indian Mangoes

The UAE is the largest buyer of Indian mangoes in the world, importing over 15,000 metric tonnes in just one year (2023-24). The reason? A large South Asian community that loves mangoes — and more locals are also enjoying the fruit. This demand has grown into a big business worth billions, connecting Indian farms in Maharashtra and Gujarat with homes across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and more.

Most Popular Mango Varieties in the UAE

Here are some of the favorite Indian mangoes you’ll find in UAE stores between April and July:

  • Alphonso (Hapus): Known as the “King of Mangoes” for its creamy texture and rich sweetness. It’s expensive, but always in demand.
  • Kesar: A mango from Gujarat with a saffron-like color and sweet-tart taste. Very popular among families.
  • Tottapuri: Firm and less sweet, this mango is great for cooking. It lasts longer, so stores and restaurants love it.

Other mango types also have loyal fans:

  • Dasheri: Long-shaped and very sweet — a favorite for mango lovers.
  • Raja Puri: Affordable and tasty, perfect for budget-conscious shoppers.
  • Badami: Buttery and rich in flavor, often sold in high-end stores.
  • Baseri: Traditional Indian flavor that reminds many of home.
  • Langra: Green on the outside, but incredibly sweet inside.

How Indian Mangoes Reach UAE Markets

The Indian mango season in the UAE starts in March and peaks between April and July, matching India’s harvest time. While mangoes also come from Yemen, Thailand, Peru, and Colombia, Indian mangoes are still the top choice.

Dubai’s Waterfront Market is the main hub for mango distribution. It has modern cold storage and ripening systems that keep the fruit fresh in the summer heat. Many specialty stores and online shops let people pre-order premium mangoes in advance to avoid missing out.

New Trends Among Mango Shoppers

Today, more people in the UAE are looking for organic mangoes, grown without chemicals. Indian farms now supply certified organic options to meet this demand. This shift is part of a health-conscious trend where people care more about quality and sustainability.

Thanks to its location, the UAE also acts as a re-export center, sending Indian mangoes to other countries in the Middle East, Europe, and the USA.
