iPhone exports from India are soaring. Between January and May 2025, the country exported over 20.4 million iPhones — a huge 57% rise from the same period in 2024.
This big jump shows a dramatic shift. Apple is choosing India more and more as its base for making iPhones. The main reason? Rising US-China tensions and a strong, growing ecosystem for smartphones in India.

Tata’s Rising Role in iPhone Exports
Tata is quickly becoming a key manufacturer in Apple’s plans. It jumped from 13% of iPhones made in India in 2024 to 37% in 2025. That’s a huge rise in just a few months.
How did this happen?
Tata took control of Wistron’s factory in Karnataka and also expanded its own operations in Hosur. Now it’s a powerful manufacturer alongside Foxconn.
“Tata is now a credible second pillar alongside Foxconn in Apple’s India base,” said Sanyam Chaurasia from Canalys (Omdia).

USA Rising Demand Push iPhones Higher
Most of these iPhones are headed to the USA. The USA’s share jumped from 54% in 2024 to 77% in 2025.
This shows a clear shift. To avoid growing tensions with Beijing and cut dependency on China, Apple is sending more iPhones made in India directly to the USA.
Meanwhile, other markets like the UK, Italy, and the Netherlands are seeing drops in their share.

Why It’s So Important
This change highlights a huge opportunity for India. Making iPhones not only brings revenue but also jobs and technology expertise.
India is growing its skills to produce high-end smartphones — from the base models all the way up to iPhones Pro and Pro Max.
Some say a total shift of production from China to India is hard. There are many components made in China, and the supplier ecosystem there is deep.
But a partial shift is very much on. The industry expects more investment and growth in India’s facilities in the future.
iPhone exports from India are a proud moment for the country. Tata’s rise alongside Foxconn shows how quickly India is growing in high-tech manufacturing. With strong policy and more investment, this trend is set to continue — making India a key hub in Apple’s future.
