Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has chosen IndoThai Airport Management Services as its new ground handling operator. This comes a day after the government cancelled the security clearance of the previous operator, Celebi Airport Services India, due to national security concerns.

IndoThai, which already works at nine airports across India, will now manage ground handling at Mumbai airport for the next three months, starting immediately, according to Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).

On Thursday, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) cancelled Celebi’s security clearance with immediate effect. This affected Celebi’s operations at several major airports, including those in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

Adani Airport Holdings, which manages Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports, has ended its partnership with Celebi. “Celebi has been asked to hand over all ground handling operations at Mumbai airport,” said Vishnu Jha, Chief Airport Officer at MIAL, in an internal letter.

According to sources, other ground handling companies like AIASL, Bird Worldwide Flight Services, and IndoThai are now hiring Celebi’s staff at various airports. New airport entry passes are also being issued to the transferred staff.
