The Indian Embassy in Japan celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in a big way in Tokyo. More than 2,000 people joined the event to practice yoga together.
The special guest was Yoshiko Ishiba, wife of Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. She not only attended but also did yoga along with everyone. Satoko Iwaya, wife of Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, was also present, showing the growing friendship between India and Japan.

Ambassador’s Message
India’s Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, spoke at the event and talked about how yoga helps improve physical, mental, and spiritual health.
The Indian Embassy posted about the event on X (formerly Twitter), sharing moments from the celebration. They mentioned that along with the Ambassador and the special guests, many others attended, including:
- Reverend Myoken Hayama and Reverend Tomohiro Kimura from Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple
- Joice Sibi, wife of the Indian Ambassador
- Senior Japanese government officials
- Other ambassadors, diplomats, and friends of India
Global Theme: One Earth, One Health
This year’s yoga theme was “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. It reminds us that taking care of our own health also helps the health of the planet.
India Leads the Way
Back in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the yoga celebrations from the coast of Visakhapatnam, where navy ships nearby made the event even more special. He said yoga is a “gift beyond age” that brings people together in health and harmony.
The United Nations first declared International Day of Yoga in 2014, after India proposed the idea. A record 175 countries supported it.
