The iPhone 17 is shaping up to be a bigger leap than expected. Earlier, some leaks said the iPhone 17 would carry the same A18 chip as last year. But now, top analyst Jeff Pu says that’s not true anymore.

According to his latest report, the iPhone 17 will come with Apple’s all-new A19 chip. This is a big change. It means Apple is not playing it safe this time. The A19 chip is expected to bring faster speed, better performance, and more battery efficiency.

Even the iPhone 17 Air will run on the A19 chip. That shows Apple is keeping its entire lineup fresh and powerful.

But don’t get too excited just yet. If you were hoping for more RAM in the base iPhone 17, you might be disappointed. Jeff Pu says the regular version will still come with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, same as last year. No upgrade here.

On the bright side, the higher models—iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max—will offer 12GB RAM. They will also switch to LPDDR5X RAM, which is faster and more power-efficient. The iPhone 17 Air will also have 12GB RAM, but with the same LPDDR5 type.

One more exciting upgrade is the new Wi-Fi 7 chip. This is Apple’s own creation. All models in the iPhone 17 family will get it. That means faster internet and smoother streaming, even in crowded networks.

Another surprise? The base iPhone 17 will have a 6.3-inch OLED screen. That’s slightly bigger than before. It might also finally support a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and gaming. But there’s a catch—it won’t have LTPO tech like the Pro models. So, no ProMotion support.

The launch date? Mark your calendar. Rumors say Apple will announce the iPhone 17 series on September 8.

To sum it up:

  • iPhone 17 and 17 Air will run on the new A19 chip
  • No RAM upgrade for the base model, still 8GB
  • Pro and Pro Max get 12GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • All models to get Wi-Fi 7
  • 6.3-inch OLED screen for the base model, with a possible 120Hz refresh
  • Launch expected on September 8

Apple seems to be focusing on performance and connectivity this year. But it still leaves regular iPhone buyers wanting a little more.
