In a surprising decision, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant chose to bowl first after winning the toss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 match. Many expected LSG to bat first and set a target, but Pant had a different strategy.
At the toss, Pant explained his decision: “We will bowl first. Our plan is to take early wickets and then chase the target. It also depends on our team combination, and we believe we have the batting strength to chase any total.”

To strengthen their bowling attack, LSG brought back fast bowler Avesh Khan in place of Shahbaz Ahmed.

Why Is This Decision Risky?
SRH, led by Pat Cummins, has one of the strongest batting lineups in the tournament. In their opening match, they scored a massive 286 runs against Rajasthan Royals. With power hitters like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Heinrich Klaasen, SRH can destroy any bowling attack.
Pant’s strategy depends on his bowlers taking early wickets. If LSG’s bowlers can break SRH’s top order early, they can control the match. But if they fail, LSG might face a huge total to chase.

Can LSG Handle a Big Chase?
While LSG has a strong batting lineup, their middle order has been inconsistent. In their last match against Delhi Capitals, they lost momentum in the middle overs, despite good performances from Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran.
With IPL 2025 already seeing high-scoring matches, Pant’s decision is a bold one. Whether it works in LSG’s favor or backfires will be the biggest question in this exciting contest.
