On Wednesday, loud explosions were heard in the eastern part of Tehran, the capital of Iran, as tensions continue to rise between Iran and Israel. According to AFP, at least five columns of smoke were seen in the east and southeast areas of the city around 3:50 PM local time.

The Israeli military confirmed that they carried out the attacks. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), they said, “The Israeli Air Force is currently striking military targets belonging to the Iranian Regime in Tehran.”

These new attacks came just hours after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, strongly rejected demands from the United States for Iran to surrender unconditionally. In his first TV appearance since June 13, the 86-year-old leader warned the US against military action.

Khamenei also said that Israel has made a “huge mistake” by attacking Iran and warned that it would be “punished” for its actions. He made it clear that Iran is not willing to accept any peace talks that are forced upon them by the US or Israel.
