On Saturday, Israel said it began a big new attack on Gaza. The recent airstrikes in Gaza killed more than 100 people, and Israel said these strikes were just the first part of their new attacks.

The Israeli army said the goal of these attacks is to win the war by freeing Israeli soldiers who were captured and defeating Hamas, the group that controls Gaza.

Israel’s army said they are attacking important areas in Gaza as part of a military operation called “Operation Gideon’s Chariots.”

In the past week, Israeli airstrikes killed more than 100 people in Gaza. Gaza’s health officials said that 108 people, many of them women and children, died in one day alone.

This new attack came a few days after US President Donald Trump finished a trip to the Middle East. During his visit, Trump talked with leaders but no agreement was made to stop the fighting or bring more help to Gaza.

Trump also said that the US should take control of Gaza and make it a “freedom zone.” He said this during his visit to Qatar.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to increase military actions in Gaza to destroy Hamas.
