The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has escalated sharply. On Friday, the Israeli military announced that over 60 fighter jets carried out airstrikes overnight in Tehran, Iran’s capital. These jets targeted and destroyed several military and nuclear facilities, including a major research centre for Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), more than 120 bombs were dropped during the attack. Among the main targets was the SPND headquarters—a key facility for developing advanced weapons and technologies for the Iranian military.

Other strikes hit missile production sites, places making components for missile engines, and raw materials used in missile building. Israel claims these sites directly support Iran’s military strength.

The IDF also said it intercepted four drones (UAVs) launched from Iran overnight. In a separate attack, Israel destroyed three missile launchers in Iran that were ready to fire at Israeli territory.

In another wave of strikes, Israeli fighter jets attacked missile systems and radar stations in Isfahan and Tehran. These systems were reportedly designed to target Israeli jets and interfere with their missions.

Earlier in the day, air raid sirens were triggered in southern Israel after Iran launched missiles toward Israeli territory.

How the Conflict Started

The current military operations began on June 13, when Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion”, targeting Iran’s military and nuclear sites. Iran retaliated with its own campaign, named “Operation True Promise III.”

Since the conflict began, the UN nuclear watchdog has reported serious damage at several Iranian nuclear facilities, including those in Natanz, Arak, Esfahan, and Tehran. These attacks have raised concerns about possible radiation risks from the damaged sites.
