The United States has found new intelligence suggesting that Israel is getting ready for a possible military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to report quoting several US officials.

Although Israel hasn’t made a final decision yet, officials say the chances of an attack have increased in recent months. Whether Israel goes ahead with the strike may depend on how the ongoing talks between the US and Iran turn out regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Why Might Israel Attack Iran’s Nuclear Sites?

Reports that if the US and Iran fail to reach a strong agreement to stop Iran from enriching uranium (which can be used to make nuclear weapons), Israel may feel it has no choice but to act. A source told  that the chances of an Israeli strike are now much higher.

US officials believe this based on two things:

  1. Intercepted messages between Israeli officials.
  2. Recent Israeli military activities, including moving weapons and finishing a major air force exercise.

However, some experts say these actions might just be meant to pressure Iran through diplomacy, not actual war.

What Could This Mean for the United States?

If Israel attacks Iran, it could cause serious problems for the US. President Donald Trump has been trying to solve the issue through talks and wants to avoid more conflict in the already tense Middle East.

In 2023, the war in Gaza increased tensions in the region, and the US is trying to prevent further fighting.

President Trump did send a warning to Iran earlier this year. In March, he gave Iran 60 days to agree to a deal. That deadline has already passed, and the talks haven’t led to an agreement yet.

A Western diplomat told that Trump recently said he would wait only a few more weeks before considering military action if the talks continue to stall.

Israel’s Tough Position

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in a tough spot. He wants to stop what he sees as a weak US-Iran deal but also doesn’t want to damage Israel’s close relationship with the US.

What’s the Deal with the US-Iran Nuclear Talks?

Trump has warned he might take military action if Iran doesn’t agree to limit its nuclear activities. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful, but many countries are suspicious that it could be used to make weapons.

The success of the US-Iran nuclear deal depends on both sides sticking to the rules. But there are big challenges:

  • Iran wants to keep enriching uranium.
  • The US and its allies want strong checks to make sure Iran doesn’t build nuclear weapons.
  • Political disagreements in both Iran and the US are making the talks even harder.
