Sunny Deol had a huge hit last year with Gadar 2, which became the biggest success of his 40-year career. After that, he signed several new films, including Jaat, Border 2, and Lahore 1947. The first of these, Jaat, was released recently, but it didn’t do as well as Gadar 2.
On its opening day, Jaat earned Rs 9.5 crore in India, as reported by Sacnilk. This is much lower than Gadar 2, which made around Rs 40 crore on its first day. Jaat was released on a Thursday, which was a holiday for many parts of North India because of Mahavir Jayanti. The film saw about 14% occupancy in theaters, with Delhi-NCR having 19% and Mumbai having just 11%.

In comparison to other big films this year, Jaat is the fourth biggest opener. The top spot is held by Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, which made Rs 31 crore on its opening day. It’s followed by Sikandar with Rs 26 crore, and Sky Force with over Rs 12 crore. Jaat comes after these, and Deva, starring Shahid Kapoor, earned Rs 5.5 crore on its opening day.
While Jaat’s opening numbers are not as huge as Gadar 2, they are still better than some of Sunny’s recent films, which had flopped. Between Gadar and Gadar 2, Sunny had a string of films that didn’t do well at the box office, like Yamla Pagla Deewana and Apne. However, Jaat’s performance shows Sunny still has a strong fan base.

Sunny is also focused on his upcoming big projects. He is working on Border 2, a sequel to his 1997 hit Border, which is expected to release in 2026. The film will also star Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Dhawan and will be set during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Sunny will also work with director Rajkumar Santoshi on Lahore 1947, which is produced by Aamir Khan. This marks their reunion after a long break, as they last worked together on hits like Ghayal, Ghatak, and Damini.
