Superman has finally landed in India, and the box office numbers are out. On Day 1, the film collected Rs 7 crore nett, giving it a solid start, though not a record-breaking one. Directed by James Gunn, this new Superman film is part of the relaunch of the DC Universe and stars David Corenswet in the lead role.
A Good Start, But Not the Best
In simple terms, Superman did well, but not great. It beat Brad Pitt’s F1, which made Rs 5.5 crore on its opening day. But it could not match Jurassic World Rebirth, which opened with Rs 9.2 crore and went on to earn over Rs 50 crore in just one week.
The film also lagged behind Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which made Rs 16.5 crore on Day 1. That’s a big gap, but Superman still has a full weekend to bounce back.
Occupancy Numbers Tell the Story
The movie had an average occupancy of 24.96% across India. Morning shows were slow, with just 15.62%, and afternoon shows weren’t much better at 18.58%. But things picked up in the evening with 26.97%, and night shows were the best, with 38.66%.
This shows that fans were more interested later in the day. If this trend continues, Saturday and Sunday could bring higher numbers.

Weekend Looks Promising
Early estimates say that Superman could earn around Rs 20 crore over the weekend. That would give it a strong hold and a good push against other films. It is already ahead of Rajkummar Rao’s new release, Maalik, in terms of buzz and bookings.
Internationally, Superman is doing even better. As per Deadline, the film made $21 million from preview shows alone. That’s the highest for any movie this year so far. Some earlier reports claimed Warner Bros. was targeting $700 million globally for success, but Gunn himself said there’s no official benchmark.
So while Superman may not have broken records on Day 1, the journey has just begun. With good word of mouth and a growing fan base, it could still soar high in the coming days.
