Bollywood actress Kajol recently called Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City a “prime example” of a haunted place, which led to strong reactions online—especially from people in Hyderabad.

What Did Kajol Say?

While promoting her new horror movie Maa, Kajol was interviewed by Galatta India. When asked if she had ever felt negative or strange energies, she said:

“Yes, I’ve experienced that feeling many times. Sometimes you go to a place and something just doesn’t feel right. I’ve been to places where I couldn’t sleep at night and just wanted to leave.”

She added:

“One such place is Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad. It’s said to be one of the most haunted places in the world. Thankfully, I haven’t seen any ghosts.”

Netizens React: ‘Matlab Kuch Bhi!’

People on social media quickly responded, calling out Kajol’s claim as silly or made up.

  • A Reddit user commented: “For movie promotions, say anything. Tomorrow she’ll act as a scientist and talk about how great science is.”
  • A user on X (Twitter) said: “With due respect, if it was haunted, lakhs of people wouldn’t visit every year. It’s a symbol of Hyderabad’s film pride.”
  • Another joked: “Ghosts still around in 2025? Seriously?”

Some even felt this was negative talk against the Telugu film industry.

But Not Everyone Disagreed

A few people supported Kajol and said other celebrities also shared spooky experiences at Ramoji Film City.

  • One user said: “Even Tapsee and Tamil director Sundar C have said similar things. There’s a rumour the place was built on an old graveyard of Nizam’s soldiers.”
  • Another shared: “Director Ravi Babu once said he stayed in Sitara Hotel at Ramoji Film City and had a scary experience that inspired his horror film Avunu.”

About Ramoji Film City

Ramoji Film City is a world-famous studio spread over 1,666 acres with 47 sound stages. It holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest film studio in the world.

Final Note

Kajol’s new horror film Maa is set to release on June 27. Whether or not Ramoji Film City is haunted remains a mystery—but it has surely sparked a debate!
