An encounter is currently happening in the Panjtirthi area of Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, where three suspected Jaish terrorists are believed to be trapped. The Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps, along with Jammu and Kashmir police and the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), started a search and destroy operation on Tuesday morning after getting information about possible terrorist activity in the area.
This operation follows a deadly gunfight earlier in the week, where two terrorists and four policemen were killed, and several others, including a deputy superintendent of police, were injured.

On Monday night, the police noticed suspicious movement in the Panjtirthi area, leading to a gunfight between the police and terrorists. This prompted the search and destroy operation to begin early on Tuesday.

Officials suspect that three terrorists from Jaish are trapped near the Panjtirthi temple in the Billawar area of Kathua. The operation is still ongoing.
On Monday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shiv Kumar Sharma confirmed that the operation would continue until all terrorists are neutralized. He urged people living near the border to report any suspicious activity. Sharma assured reporters in Reasi that the police force is committed to ending terrorism and ensuring the safety of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharma also expressed sadness over the death of one soldier in the encounter but emphasized that the training given to the soldiers is excellent, and their morale is high. Security forces have intensified their search using aerial surveillance and sniffer dogs.
In addition, six people were detained after reports of three individuals suspected to be terrorists, who had escaped from a previous encounter in Kathua. DIG Sharma also visited the family of the fallen soldier, honoring their sacrifice. He praised the bravery of the forces and reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir Police would never back down in their mission to create a safe environment in the region.
Sharma added that despite the loss, the morale of the forces remains strong, and they are determined to continue their work to protect the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
