The Kedarnath Yatra 2025 is breaking records—and not just spiritual ones. In just 48 days since the temple doors opened on May 2, more than 11.4 lakh pilgrims have already visited Shri Kedarnath Dham. That’s not just a religious milestone, but a major financial boost for Uttarakhand’s local economy.
From helicopter rides to horse-mule services, this yatra is turning devotion into development.

Unmatched Devotion, Unbelievable Turnout
Kedarnath is one of the most revered sites in the Char Dham Yatra. Every year, lakhs walk, ride, or fly up the steep trails to seek divine blessings. But 2025 has seen an exceptional rush—with over 11.4 lakh pilgrims arriving by June 18 alone.
The temple town of Rudraprayag district is thriving. Locals say it’s the busiest they’ve ever seen it.
Horse-Mules Ride in Big Numbers
According to Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Ashish Rawat, 2.27 lakh people have used horse-mule services so far. Despite a brief halt caused by an equine flu scare, the services bounced back fast.
Over ₹66.7 crore has been earned from these rides alone. About 8,000 horses and mules are currently in action.
Helicopter Bookings Skyrocket
Heli services have also soared. District Tourism Officer Rahul Chaubey reported that 49,247 pilgrims chose to fly, generating nearly ₹60 crore in income. There are eight heli companies operating from nine helipads this year.
Old-School Dandi-Kandi Still Alive
If you thought tradition was dying, think again. The dandi-kandi service—where locals carry pilgrims in baskets or stretchers—is still going strong. Over ₹2 crore has been earned by 7,000+ registered operators so far.
Smooth Roads, Big Earnings
Transport is the invisible hero here. 225 shuttle vehicles are registered this year. Assistant Transport Officer Kulwant Singh Chauhan said these earned ₹11.4 crore already.
Also, fines worth ₹4.17 lakh were issued to ensure clean and safe travel, keeping the spiritual journey sanitary and smooth.
Devotion Meets Development
What started as a spiritual mission has become an economic powerhouse. Local hotels, shops, and service providers are thriving thanks to the massive turnout.
And this isn’t just good news for Rudraprayag. It’s a model of how religious tourism can create real-time, grassroots development.
Kedarnath Yatra 2025 has clearly become more than a pilgrimage. It’s a story of faith, progress, and people power. And the year’s not even over yet.
