The Jallianwala Bagh tragedy took place on April 13, 1919, during the Baisakhi festival in Amritsar. Thousands of people had gathered to peacefully protest the Rowlatt Act and demand the release of leaders Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew. British officer Brigadier General Reginald Dyer ordered his soldiers to open fire on the unarmed crowd without warning.
The Ministry of Culture says 1,650 bullets were fired, and the shooting only stopped when the soldiers ran out of ammunition. While British reports say 291 people died, Indian estimates suggest that more than 500 people lost their lives.
Kesari 2 is a follow-up to the 2019 movie Kesari, which told the story of the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers fought against 10,000 Pashtun fighters. The first film also featured Parineeti Chopra in an important role.
