Legendary singer Kishore Kumar, known for his timeless voice and melodies, faced many ups and downs in his life. While he was hugely successful in his career, he also went through several personal struggles. As he grew older, especially in his 50s, his health began to decline. He suffered his first heart attack in 1981.
Recently, his son Amit Kumar spoke about what led to that health issue. In an interview with Radio Nasha, Amit revealed that the heart attack happened shortly after his wedding was called off in 1981.

Amit shared, “It was going to be an arranged marriage. My father was very happy and excited. He wanted to invite everyone from Mumbai and the film industry to Kolkata for the wedding. He had many dreams and plans.”
Kishore Kumar was already planning his future after Amit’s wedding. Amit said, “Dad told me, ‘Do whatever you want before the wedding. After that, you’ll settle down. I will move to Khandwa and you can visit me there.’”
However, just 10 days before the wedding, the family found out a shocking truth — the woman Amit was going to marry was already married. The wedding cards had already been printed, and this news deeply upset Kishore Kumar.

Still, Kishore was determined to find a new bride for his son. On January 24, 1981, the day the wedding was supposed to happen, Kishore flew to Kolkata. Amit told him not to worry, but Kishore insisted. Sadly, after landing in Kolkata, he had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.
For those who don’t know, Kishore Kumar was married four times:
- Ruma Guha Thakurta (Amit’s mother)
- Madhubala (who passed away early)
- Yogita Bali (they later separated)
- Leena Chandavarkar, who stayed with him until his death.
Despite all the fame and success, Kishore Kumar went through a lot of emotional pain — and Amit’s cancelled wedding was one of the major shocks that affected his health.
