Kolkata Law Student Raped on Camera: ‘Mango’ Thought She’d Stay Silent

Kolkata Rape

On the evening of June 25, a 24-year-old student from a Kolkata law college was raped on campus. The prime accused, Monojit ‘Mango’ Mishra, didn’t just commit the crime—he had it filmed. He believed that the video would be enough to scare her into silence.

But she went to the police.

And now the truth is out.

The Plan Was Cold. The Execution, Cruel.

Monojit was no stranger to the survivor. In fact, police say he had been stalking her since the day she joined the college.

She had rejected his advances earlier. And that bruised his ego.

So he made a plan with two others—Pramit Mukhopadhyay and Zaib Ahmed. He even offered her a fake position as general secretary of the college union—a post that doesn’t exist anymore. It was bait.

When she came to submit her exam form on June 25, they kept her on campus till evening.

Then, in a room used by the college security guard, the unthinkable happened.

The Camera Was Their Weapon

Monojit didn’t just rape her. Pramit and Zaib filmed it.

They believed she wouldn’t dare go to the police.

He even got his friends to watch the Kasba Police Station, just one kilometre away, to see if she reported it.

But the survivor did what he didn’t expect.

She told her father.

Then, she filed a complaint.

And that’s when everything started falling apart for them.

Mango’s Fall

The next day, Monojit was nervous. He called a college staff member to ask if police had visited the campus. Realising he was now a suspect, he called his lawyer friends.

But nobody came to save him.

On June 26, Monojit and Zaib were found hiding near Fern Road, close to Ballygunge station. Pramit was arrested later that night.

Police have now recovered evidence from the crime scene—including the bedsheet used in the room. Forensics is underway.

A Pattern of Abuse

Monojit isn’t new to crime.

He already had 11 previous cases, many involving harassment of women. He was out on bail when this incident happened.

He walked the campus like he owned it.

But this time, his victim spoke up.

This isn’t just about law. It’s about power, silence, and fear. Monojit thought the camera would shut her up.

But her voice broke the silence louder than any video ever could.

“They thought filming the rape would scare her. Instead, it exposed them all.”

And that’s what scared them the most.
