A 22-year-old woman got hurt near her eye after a man pushed her off a moving bus in north Kolkata’s Sinthee More on Friday afternoon. This happened because she spoke up against him for touching her inappropriately.

The man, Md Saif (also called Saifuddin), who is 21 years old and lives in Narkeldanga, was caught by the Cossipore Police. He has been charged for hurting the woman and for bothering her in a way that hurt her feelings and safety.

The police said the incident happened between 3:30 pm and 4 pm. The woman was traveling on a bus from Sealdah. The man got on the bus at Rajabazar and started touching her in a wrong way. She told him to stop, but he pushed her hard, and she fell off the moving bus.

She hurt herself near her eye when she hit a metal handle on the bus during the fall.

People nearby and other passengers helped the police catch the man at Sinthee More. The woman was taken to a hospital to get medical help.

A police officer from Cossipore station said, “We have registered a case and arrested the man. We will ask the court to take the woman’s statement carefully and privately.”

The police are also checking CCTV cameras and talking to witnesses, including the bus conductor, to understand everything that happened.

The woman’s name is not being shared to protect her privacy, following court rules about cases of sexual assault.
