From record-breaking openings to a shocking 50% drop—can L2 Empuraan survive the Sikandar storm?
The Rise and Dip of L2 Empuraan
L2 Empuraan, the much-awaited Malayalam action drama starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, hit theaters on March 27 with a bang. The film, which marks Prithviraj’s directorial debut, opened strong with ₹21 crore on its first day. It even broke records by crossing ₹50 crore in global pre-sales, becoming the first Malayalam film to do so.
However, by Day 3, the film saw a sharp decline. Earnings dropped by over 50%, from ₹11.5 crore on Day 2 to just ₹5.34 crore on Day 3. The Malayalam version performed the best, while the Hindi version struggled with only ₹4 lakh on Day 2.

Clash with Sikandar: A Tough Battle Ahead
The real test begins now as L2 Empuraan is set to clash with Salman Khan’s Sikandar, releasing this Sunday. With occupancy rates already dipping—46.52% for Malayalam and as low as 6.38% for Hindi—the competition could make or break the film’s success.
Star Power and Sequel Hype
The film boasts a stellar cast, including Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran. As the sequel to Lucifer (2019), it’s part of a planned trilogy, adding to the anticipation. But will the hype be enough to keep it afloat?
