Mahindra has made big changes to the Thar SUV lineup in India. They have stopped selling several versions, especially those with the Convertible Top and some AX and LX 4WD models. Because of this, the number of Thar variants has dropped from 19 to just 11.
Models That Have Been Discontinued
The main models that have been removed include:

- Convertible Top options in AX(O), LX, and AT 4WD variants
- AX 4WD variants
- LX 4WD variants with an open differential (OD)
These discontinued models were priced between ₹14.49 lakh and ₹17.29 lakh.
Now, in the AX trim, the only rear-wheel drive (RWD) option left is the one with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Despite these changes, the Thar’s price range remains the same — between ₹11.50 lakh and ₹17.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Current Line-up and Prices
The updated Thar lineup now includes only hard-top versions with either 2WD or 4WD. Here are some key models that are still available:
- 2.0P LX 4WD Hard Top – ₹15.20 lakh
- 2.2D LX 4WD Hard Top – ₹15.95 lakh
- 2.2D LX AT Earth Edition 4WD – ₹17.60 lakh
What’s Next for Thar?
Mahindra is also working on a facelifted Thar, which is currently called the W515 internally. This new version is expected to launch in 2026. It will have design updates inspired by the Thar Roxx concept and may feature:
- A bigger touchscreen infotainment system
- A digital instrument cluster
- A sunroof (in some Hard Top variants)
The engines and drivetrains are expected to stay the same.
