The incident happened around 2 pm while the victims were travelling in a car about 7 km from Churachandpur town. According to police, the attackers shot at the car from very close range. A senior police officer said, “They were likely shot from point-blank range.”|

The police have not yet identified the victims. They found over a dozen empty bullet shells at the scene, which suggests the attackers used automatic weapons.
So far, no group has taken responsibility for the attack. The reason behind the shooting is still unknown.
After the attack, more police and security forces were sent to the area to secure the location and start search operations.
This incident adds to the ongoing ethnic tensions and violence in Manipur, which has been facing unrest since May 2023.
