Meta is developing a new type of smart glasses called Project Aria Gen 2, which could revolutionize wearable technology by combining advanced sensors that can track your eye movements, hand gestures, and even measure your heart rate.
These glasses use multiple cameras to capture a wide 80-degree view, accurately detect depth and distance, and understand what you’re focusing on or how you’re reacting to your surroundings. Unlike the simpler Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses currently available, the Aria Gen 2 is still in the research phase and only accessible to select researchers.

Meta’s goal with this project is to blend artificial intelligence and augmented reality to create smart glasses that do more than just deliver notifications—they could help you in everyday life, such as by recognizing when you’re searching for something and guiding you to find it. While it’s unclear if the Aria Gen 2 will ever be sold to the public, the technology developed through this research may soon influence the next generation of smart glasses.
Eventually, Meta envisions a future where smart glasses could replace smartphones, making our interaction with technology more seamless and intuitive. For now, however, smartphones remain our primary devices as these innovations continue to evolve.
