A Mexican Navy ship carrying over 200 people crashed into New York City’s famous Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night. The accident injured 22 people, and rescue efforts are still going on. According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, three people are in serious condition.

What Happened?
The ship, named Cuauhtémoc, was taking part in a regular training exercise. While moving in reverse under the Brooklyn Bridge, the ship’s tall masts hit the bridge and broke apart. Pieces of wood and ropes fell into the East River below.
Bridge Not Seriously Damaged
Even though the crash looked dramatic, officials said the Brooklyn Bridge did not suffer major damage. The bridge, built in 1883, connects Manhattan and Brooklyn and is one of New York’s most famous landmarks.
Some videos shared on social media show the moment the ship hit the bridge. Many people nearby were shocked, and crowds ran away from the area. Witnesses said some sailors were high up in the ship’s rigging and fell into the water during the crash.
Investigation Underway
The New York Police Department said they are still looking into how the injuries happened. The exact reason for the crash is not yet known.
Mexican Navy Responds
The Mexican Navy confirmed that the ship was damaged during a planned training drill. They said safety is their top priority and promised to be transparent about what happened.
The Cuauhtémoc is a tall ship used for training and was built in 1982. It is known for visiting different countries as a symbol of the Mexican Navy.
Even though the ship was damaged, the Brooklyn Bridge remains open and safe. Both U.S. and Mexican authorities will continue to review the incident. The full extent of damage to the ship is still being checked.
