Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has cleared the air about MS Dhoni’s retirement, saying there’s no confirmation and Dhoni is still going strong. His comments came after CSK lost their match against Delhi Capitals by 25 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in Match 17 of IPL 2025.
This was CSK’s third straight loss in the ongoing IPL season. The team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, couldn’t chase down the target of 184 runs set by Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals.

Before the match, there were strong rumors that Dhoni might retire after the game. These rumors got even stronger when Dhoni’s parents were seen in the stadium, leading fans to believe something special might happen.

However, during the post-match press conference, coach Fleming was asked about Dhoni’s future. He responded:
“That’s not my role to answer. I don’t know anything. I just enjoy working with him. He’s still doing well. I don’t even ask anymore — you guys (the media) do”

In the match, Dhoni batted at number 7 and scored an unbeaten 30 runs off 26 balls, hitting one four and one six. Although the required run rate was high, Dhoni didn’t try to hit boundaries frequently. He and Vijay Shankar built a strong partnership of 84 runs, with Shankar scoring 69 not out from 54 balls.
Despite their efforts, CSK fell short of the target and lost the game.
