Mukul Dev, the versatile film and TV actor, passed away suddenly at the age of 54. His death on Saturday shocked fans and the entertainment world alike. Mukul had been battling health problems and was admitted to the ICU before he died. So far, his family has not shared an official cause of death.
What makes this loss even more chilling is Mukul Dev’s final Instagram post. Just months before he passed, Mukul shared a mysterious video of clouds seen from inside an airplane.

The caption read, “And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too…. I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.” The line comes from Pink Floyd’s famous song and now feels haunting.
This post left many wondering: Did Mukul Dev somehow sense his own end? It’s a fair question, especially since Mukul was not only an actor but also a trained pilot from the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi.

For him, the image of flying above clouds might have been both literal and symbolic—a farewell wrapped in poetry.
Born in New Delhi to a Punjabi family, Mukul Dev started his acting career on Doordarshan in the 1990s.
His debut film was Mahesh Bhatt’s Dastak (1996), where he starred opposite Sushmita Sen. Over the years, Mukul showed his range by acting in films in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, and Bengali languages. He was never about chasing fame; his passion was pure storytelling.
Mukul’s connection to real life ran deep. His debut role as a police officer echoed his own father’s career in the Delhi Police. Off-screen, Mukul was remembered as thoughtful and grounded.
Film critic Mayank Shekhar recalled Mukul as a warm, generous host who loved good conversation and admired fellow actor Shah Rukh Khan, his school senior.
For the everyday person, Mukul Dev’s story is a reminder that life is fragile. One moment, someone can be sharing clouds and moonlight; the next, they’re gone. It also shows how people sometimes try to express feelings about life and death in subtle, poetic ways.
Mukul’s last film, Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn, is still unreleased. His fans will have to wait to see him on screen one last time.
In the end, Mukul Dev was more than an actor. He was a pilot, a thinker, and a storyteller who left a lasting mark. And perhaps his final words on Instagram were his own way of saying goodbye—on the dark side of the moon.
