A 32-year-old doctor from Mumbai, Dr. Omkar Kavitake, is suspected to have jumped off the Atal Setu sea bridge on Monday night, just minutes after telling his mother he was coming home for dinner.
According to a report, Dr. Kavitake had called his mother around 9:11 PM and told her he would be home soon. But shortly after that, he allegedly stopped his car on the Navi Mumbai–Mumbai side of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri–Nhava Sheva Atal Setu (also known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link) and jumped off the bridge.

A motorist who saw the incident informed the police control room. When police reached the spot, they found a car parked on the bridge with a mobile phone inside. After checking the phone’s last dialled numbers, police confirmed that the car and phone belonged to Dr. Kavitake, who lived in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai, and had been working at Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai for the past six years.
The police immediately informed his family and began a search operation. No suicide note or message has been found yet. Officers are now speaking with Dr. Kavitake’s family, friends, and colleagues to understand what may have led him to take such a step.
