Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower, won the Golden Spike title at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event held on Tuesday. He threw 85.29 meters in his best attempt, which was enough to secure first place. However, he said he wasn’t completely happy with his performance.
This was Neeraj’s first time competing at the famous Ostrava Golden Spike meet. He made a foul on his first attempt, followed by a throw of 83.45m in his second. His winning throw came in the third round. After that, he threw 82.17m and 81.01m, and ended with another foul in the final round.

Speaking after the event, Neeraj said,
“I’m not very happy with how I performed today, but I’m happy to win this trophy. I’ve watched this event since I was a kid, seeing legends like Jan Zelezny and Usain Bolt win here. It was my dream to win this, and now it’s come true.”

He also thanked the crowd for their strong support and said he wished he had thrown better, especially since javelin is very popular in Czechia, where the event was held.
Earlier in May, Neeraj had thrown over 90 meters and finished second at the Doha Diamond League. Just a few days before the Golden Spike event, he also won at the Paris Diamond League.
Neeraj’s next competition will be on July 5 at the NC Classic in Bengaluru, where he will compete against top throwers like Anderson Peters and Thomas Rohler.
Even though he didn’t meet his own high expectations, Neeraj still managed to keep up his winning streak and bring home the prestigious Golden Spike title.
