A Rally Gone Wrong

Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, witnessed violent clashes on Friday as supporters of the former king demanded the return of the monarchy. What started as a peaceful protest quickly turned chaotic, leaving two people dead and over 100 injured, including 77 police officers.

Chaos in the Streets

Protesters threw stones at police, vandalized shops, a hospital, and even snatched a weapon from an officer. Authorities called the violence “sheer vandalism and anarchy,” not a legitimate protest. By Saturday, 105 demonstrators, including pro-monarchy leaders, were arrested.

Why Are People Protesting?

Nepal abolished its 239-year-old monarchy in 2008 after a civil war that killed 17,000 people. Since then, the country has faced political instability, with 14 different governments failing to boost the economy. Many protesters believe bringing back the monarchy could restore order.

What Happens Next?

The government has launched an investigation into the violence. Meanwhile, frustration grows among citizens tired of political chaos and economic struggles. With tensions high, Nepal’s future remains uncertain.
