The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has rolled out an exciting new opportunity for students who either failed or discontinued their Class 11 studies. Under a fresh initiative, the council is allowing students to re-enroll under the new semester system and select from a range of new subject combinations.
This move aims to ensure that students who were previously unable to complete their studies due to academic setbacks or discontinuation will not lose an academic year. Starting from the 2025-26 academic session, students can now choose from the Science (Set I), Commerce (Set II), or Humanities (Set III) streams—regardless of the stream they were originally enrolled in.

Who Can Apply?
-
Failed or Discontinued Students: Students who either failed or discontinued their Class 11 studies will now have the opportunity to start anew with a fresh enrollment under the semester system, with the freedom to choose a completely new set of subjects.
-
Students from the Previous Syllabus: Those who passed Class 11 but either did not appear for the Higher Secondary examinations or failed the test exams are also eligible to re-register under the semester-based system and continue their education with new subjects.
-
Fresh Stream Option: The council introduced the ‘Fresh Stream’ option, allowing students to restart their academic journey without facing penalties for previous academic setbacks.
-
Backlog Students: Students with multiple backlogs under the old syllabus will continue as ‘Continuing Candidates’ (CC) or ‘Special Candidates,’ based on the number of failed subjects.
-
Migrating from Annual to Semester System: The new system also accommodates students wishing to migrate from the traditional annual system to the newly implemented semester system.
Key Update: Enrollment Deadline Extended
To give students ample time to apply, the enrollment window has been extended until June 30, 2025. Students can apply online, select their preferred stream, and finalize their subject combinations for the upcoming academic session.
This step is part of WBCHSE’s ongoing effort to offer more flexibility, empower students, and ensure that those who faced challenges in their academic journey can still progress without delays.
This initiative promises to be a game-changer for many students, offering them the chance to restart and pursue their studies under the newly introduced semester system with greater subject flexibility.
