The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will restart on May 17 after a short break due to rising military tensions between India and Pakistan. Now that a ceasefire is in place, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the tournament will resume.
The first match after the break will be played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Gavaskar Requests a Simple, Respectful Return
Former cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has asked the BCCI to keep the rest of the IPL season simple and respectful. He believes it’s important to honour the feelings of families who lost loved ones during the recent tensions.
Speaking to Sports Today, Gavaskar said,
“These are the last 15 or 16 matches. I hope we don’t have loud music, DJs, or cheerleaders. Just cricket. Let the fans enjoy the game in a calm environment. It would be a respectful way to move forward.”
BCCI to Continue with Regular Matches
Even though Gavaskar has requested a toned-down celebration, the BCCI has decided to go ahead with the remaining matches as planned. They made this decision after discussions with government, security teams, and other important groups.
