President Trump has again shaken up global trade talk. On Sunday night, he posted on Truth Social a clear warning:
“Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. No exceptions.”

This message came just hours after BRICS members criticized US actions. In a joint declaration, they slammed US tariffs and strikes on Iran. They didn’t name Trump, but the tone was clear.
What’s BRICS?
BRICS is a group of major developing countries. It includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Last year, it added more — Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE.
These countries are trying to build their own path in global trade. They want to move away from the US dollar and push back on American influence.
Why Trump Is Angry
Trump sees BRICS as anti-American. He believes their new trade ideas hurt US power. So, he plans to punish countries that support BRICS with more tariffs.
This means if a country sides with BRICS, it could face a 10% extra tax on goods it sends to the US.
That’s not all. Trump said if BRICS tries to undermine the dollar, he could raise tariffs to 100%. That would double prices for many items.
Brazil Tries to Play It Safe
Brazil hosted this year’s BRICS summit. It tried to stay neutral to avoid trouble with the US. But Trump’s warning puts pressure on all BRICS members and their trade partners.
The Deadline Is Near
Trump had paused his “reciprocal tariff” plan for 90 days. That pause ends on July 9. If countries don’t make trade deals with the US by then, higher tariffs will hit on August 1.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed this. He said the new tariffs are ready. Only a deal can stop them.
The Bigger Picture
This fight is about more than taxes. It’s about who controls global trade. BRICS wants a world not led by the US. Trump wants to protect America’s role at the top.
The coming weeks could shape the future of global economics. And Trump has made one thing clear: You’re either with America, or you pay the price.
